Cairns three-day liveaboards: Pro Dive Scubapro or OceanQuest?
Compare two-night Cairns dive trips by transfer model, day-by-day diving, reef areas, cabins, inclusions and flight timing. Three days is not the same as three nights.
Which three-day Cairns liveaboard should you choose?
For a three-day, two-night Cairns liveaboard, compare Pro Dive’s Scubapro programme with Divers Den’s OceanQuest stay. Scubapro departs and returns on the same liveaboard without passenger transfers between boats. OceanQuest stays at the reef, with SeaQuest taking arriving guests out and a transfer vessel bringing them back. Choose Scubapro if you want the same boat throughout and an advertised programme of up to 11 dives. Choose OceanQuest if flexible stay lengths, en-suite cabins or separate snorkelling and introductory-diving bookings are more useful. A three-night Spirit of Freedom trip is a different, longer Ribbon Reefs programme; it is not interchangeable with these two-night outer-reef stays.

Scubapro: the three-day sequence
On day one, Pro Dive lists a Cairns city pickup around 06:00, shop check-in at 06:20 and departure at 07:00. Its shop is at the corner of Grafton and Shields streets. The operator recommends visiting the evening before to arrange equipment and paperwork. Day one schedules three daytime dives and a night dive, with the first dive around 11:00. Day two schedules four dives: an early dive around 07:00, late-morning and afternoon dives, then a second night dive. Day three schedules three morning dives at approximately 06:30, 09:00 and 11:00, finishing by noon, before lunch and the return to Cairns. The hotel return transfer is listed around 16:00. These are up to 11 opportunities, not a requirement to dive every session. Weather, tides and currents can change sites and timing. The four named reefs are a site portfolio rather than a promise to visit all four on one departure.
Pro Dive: full three-day, two-night itineraryOceanQuest: what the second night adds
Day one starts with city pickup and Draper Street check-in between 07:30 and 08:00, then SeaQuest’s departure around 08:30. The general timetable lists reef sessions around 10:00 and 12:30, a transfer to OceanQuest around 14:30, an afternoon session at 15:30 and an evening diving option after dinner. Day two is a full day on the overnight vessel, with sessions around 08:30, 10:30 and 15:30 plus an evening dive option. Day three has two morning sessions, noon cabin checkout and lunch before the afternoon transfer back. The advertised accommodation return is around 17:00. That general timetable contains ten water sessions across the three days, while the certified product advertises up to four dives per day. Do not multiply that daily maximum into a promise of 12 dives: the final day has only two morning sessions. Activity, conditions and your participation determine what you actually do. The second night adds a full reef day, not a crossing to the Ribbon Reefs.
OceanQuest: three-day, two-night timetablePrices and inclusions: compare the same basket
OceanQuest’s certified-diver fare is A$1,160 per person for three days and two nights, valid to 31 March 2027, checked 24 October 2026. It includes equipment, meals, GST, fees including the Environmental Management Charge, and Cairns city accommodation transfers. Sole occupancy costs extra. Guided dives are A$20 per person per dive and Nitrox is A$20 per tank; first-time night divers must pay for a guide. Pro Dive lists equipment including a computer, wetsuit and torch, all meals and linen, twin or double accommodation, Cairns city transfers, dive insurance, and its environmental, port and administration charges within the fare. Northern Beaches transfers cost extra. Its page advertises an A$140 Nitrox package for already Nitrox-certified divers and a separate private-instructor upgrade. A directly comparable dated base fare was not visible in the retrieved page, so there is no defensible cheaper-boat ranking here.
OceanQuest: dated two-night fare and paid extrasCertification, guidance and booking a course
Both operators separate initial training from their ordinary certified-diver trips. Pro Dive’s three-day liveaboard can carry additional Advanced or Nitrox training, but an uncertified guest needs the appropriate learn-to-dive course rather than assuming three days aboard includes Open Water certification. OceanQuest sells snorkelling and introductory-diving products separately from certified diving. Pro Dive lists guided orientation and night diving among its inclusions, and offers first-dive support for divers who have not dived recently. A dedicated instructor throughout the trip is a separate upgrade. OceanQuest lets certified divers choose buddy diving or paid guidance. Those are different services; an advertised dive count says nothing about how much in-water supervision your booking buys. Both require medical screening. Pro Dive identifies illness, injury and prescription medication among reasons a fit-to-dive certificate may be necessary. Complete the actual operator’s forms before paying for courses or flights. This comparison does not provide medical clearance or rank the boats’ safety performance.
Pro Dive: guided diving, training options and medical conditionsCairns nights before and after the boat
Arrive in Cairns before departure day: Scubapro’s 06:20 shop check-in and OceanQuest’s 07:30–08:00 check-in window are not sensible connections from a same-morning inbound flight. Keep your main luggage ashore where the operator provides storage and bring an overnight bag. Pro Dive recommends no flying within 24 hours of diving and says noon the day after the normal trip is the earliest flight. Divers Den also flags flying and altitude restrictions, including the Atherton Tablelands. Keep the post-trip night in Cairns and allow at least 24 hours after the final dive before onward flying or altitude, subject to stricter departure-specific instructions. Do not treat the advertised 16:00 or 17:00 boat return as a flight connection time.

OceanQuest also advertises two days and one night. The dedicated one-night guide explains the shorter timetable, activity choices and price without confusing it with a three-day booking.

Use the Great Barrier Reef route guide for Spirit of Freedom’s northern Ribbon Reefs and offshore Coral Sea programmes. An extra night does not make a Cairns outer-reef boat visit the same sites as those expedition routes.
