Which Cairns liveaboard offers one night?
OceanQuest, operated by Divers Den, advertises an explicit two-day, one-night Great Barrier Reef stay from Cairns. Choose its snorkelling, introductory-diving or certified-diving product to match what you will actually do. These are different activity bookings on the same overnight vessel, not three competing boats.
The trip reaches the outer reef on SeaQuest, a day boat, then transfers guests to OceanQuest in the afternoon. You sleep at the reef and return to Cairns on a transfer vessel the following afternoon. Pro Dive’s standard Scubapro liveaboard is three days and two nights, so it does not fit a strict one-night limit.
OceanQuest: overnight stays and activity choicesChoose snorkelling, introductory diving or certified diving
Choose the snorkelling product if you want reef time without scuba. The overnight stay still includes meals, a cabin and access to snorkelling equipment. Divers Den advertises introductory diving separately for people who want an instructor-led introduction rather than certified buddy diving. Introductory diving is not an Open Water certification course.
Already certified divers should use the certified-diving booking. It offers buddy diving, with guided dives sold separately. Bring your certification card and logbook. A mixed diver/snorkeller pair should select the appropriate activity for each person and arrange a shared cabin, rather than pay for two certified-diver places by default. All scuba participants must satisfy the medical questionnaire; the short duration does not remove that requirement.
OceanQuest certified diving: inclusions, prerequisites and medical screeningDay one: Cairns check-in, reef sessions and your overnight cabin
The published itinerary starts with Cairns city pickup between 07:30 and 08:00 if booked, and check-in at Divers Den’s dive centre at 319 Draper Street before the marina transfer. SeaQuest departs around 08:30. The certified-diver itinerary describes a 90-minute cruise, equipment selection and briefings, a first dive around 10:00 and a second opportunity around 12:30 after lunch.
At about 14:30 you transfer to OceanQuest and move into your cabin. An afternoon session is listed around 15:30, followed by dinner at 18:00. The general overnight timetable also lists an evening dive session. The certified product includes night diving, but its detailed one-night timetable omits that evening slot. Treat the evening dive as part of the operator’s activity arrangements, not a guaranteed sixth dive calculated from conflicting schedules. A first-ever night dive requires a guide at an extra charge.
Divers Den: one-night timetable and transfer modelDay two: morning reef time and an afternoon return
Breakfast is around 07:30, with dive or snorkel sessions at about 08:30 and 10:30. Cabin checkout is noon, lunch is around 12:30 and the returning transfer vessel arrives about 14:30. The published schedule leaves the reef around 15:00 and returns guests to Cairns accommodation around 17:00. These are itinerary times, not a promise of an exact arrival.
This gives you two calendar days at the reef but only one night aboard. It does not leave a full second afternoon for sightseeing in Cairns. Keep the evening flexible instead of attaching a tightly timed onward bus or flight to the advertised return.
OceanQuest: two-day, one-night certified-diver itineraryWhat one night costs, and which extras change the total
The certified-diver page lists A$835 per person for two days and one night, valid to 31 March 2027, checked 24 October 2026. It states that equipment, tuition, meals, GST and all fees including the Environmental Management Charge are included. Cairns city accommodation transfers are included. Sole occupancy costs extra; this fare is not a private-cabin quote or confirmation of a berth.
Guided dives cost A$20 per person per dive; a guide is required for a diver’s first night dive. Nitrox is listed at A$20 per tank. Fluoro diving, camera hire, soft drinks, alcohol and snacks are separate extras. The general page shows different starting prices for snorkelling and introductory diving; do not use the certified A$835 fare as a quote for every activity.
OceanQuest certified-diver prices, validity and extrasCabins, luggage and who the short stay suits
OceanQuest has 18 twin cabins and four doubles, all air-conditioned with en-suite bathrooms. Divers Den cannot guarantee same-gender cabin sharing. A double cabin, a twin berth and sole occupancy are therefore different requests; one person booking a place should not assume they receive a cabin to themselves.
Bedding and bath towels are supplied. Bring an overnight bag, swimwear, toiletries, a reusable water bottle and warm clothes for the evening; excess baggage can stay at the Draper Street office. The operator requires guests to be 18 to travel unaccompanied and adult supervision for children under 16, including in-water sessions. It also says the boat lacks infant amenities.
Choose one night when your priority is an overnight reef stay within two days. Choose longer if an additional full reef day matters more than saving a night. This programme visits the Cairns outer reef; it is not a short way to reach the northern Ribbon Reefs or the Coral Sea.
OceanQuest: cabins, baggage and age conditionsA solo booking does not reserve a private cabin
Compare a shared berth with guaranteed sole occupancy before pricing this short trip. OceanQuest's twin and double layouts do not establish same-gender sharing or a private cabin; obtain the actual supplement and sharing terms.
Compare a shared berth with sole-use cabin costsPlan flights and altitude separately from the boat return
Divers Den flags post-dive flying and altitude restrictions, specifically including the Atherton Tablelands. Its normal final-dive exit is by noon. For a conservative travel plan, keep the night after the trip in Cairns and leave at least 24 hours after your final dive before flying or going to altitude, subject to any stricter operator or medical instructions. A boat return around 17:00 is not clearance for a same-evening flight. This guide does not assess your fitness to dive.

The three-day comparison explains what a second night adds on OceanQuest and how it differs from Pro Dive’s same-vessel Scubapro trip. Use it if your dates can stretch beyond the one-night limit.

For Ribbon Reefs, Cod Hole or Coral Sea itineraries, use the Great Barrier Reef guide. Those routes involve different trip lengths and experience considerations rather than an upgrade to this one-night stay.
