Raja Ampat by liveaboard

Choose central Raja Ampat or a route adding Misool, then plan around Sorong, actual nights onboard and the operator’s diving requirements.

Central Raja Ampat: Dampier Strait and the Fam islands

White Manta’s Central Raja Ampat route focuses on Waigeo and Batanta, with the Dampier Strait and Fam islands among its diving areas. Its sample route includes Piaynemo and does not include Misool. If those central areas are your priority, compare how much of each proposed trip is spent there rather than choosing by boat name alone.

Including Misool changes the route

White Manta’s North & South sample routes add Misool areas such as Daram, Boo and Wayil before continuing to Piaynemo and central Raja Ampat. That is a concrete difference to look for in two trips sold under the same Raja Ampat name. These are operator examples, not a promised departure: the operator makes its routes subject to weather, sea, diving and local conditions. Confirm the proposed stops and transfers for your own trip.

Joining the boat in Sorong

White Manta lists Sorong (SOQ) for embarkation and disembarkation on its Central Raja Ampat programme, with transfers from the local airport or hotel included. Its samples are six days/five nights and seven days/six nights; neither has a full diving day on disembarkation. Match flights to the named departure’s check-in and transfer arrangements, rather than treating every calendar day as a diving day. The operator recommends an overnight land stop in Jakarta, Makassar or Bali before the onward journey to Sorong. Flights and land hotels are outside the cruise fare. Reconfirm the actual last dive and onward flight timing with the operator; the sample itinerary is not personal no-fly clearance.

Who these routes suit

White Manta rates its Central Raja Ampat programme intermediate to advanced and describes currents ranging from mild to strong. A warm-water reef destination is not automatically a beginner programme. Send your qualifications, recent dives and current-diving experience to the operator for the particular sailing. A central-only route is the more direct fit when Dampier Strait and Fam are your priorities. If Misool is essential, shortlist a programme that explicitly includes it rather than assuming any Raja Ampat cruise will go south.
