Socorro liveaboards: boats, dive days and Cabo departures

Compare Nautilus, Rocio del Mar and Quino del Mar for Socorro: crossing time, actual dive days, cabins, experience requirements and excluded costs.

Which Socorro liveaboard should you choose?

Choose a Socorro liveaboard for open-Pacific diving around San Benedicto, Socorro and Roca Partida, with oceanic mantas, dolphins and sharks among the possible encounters. This is a volcanic-island dive trip with long crossings, not a coral-reef holiday or a Sea of Cortez coastal cruise. Wildlife and access to individual sites are never guaranteed. Compare dive days before cabin grades. Nautilus describes a nine-day, eight-night programme with five full dive days; Mexico Liveaboards describes a ten-day, nine-night Rocio del Mar or Quino del Mar programme with six. An extra holiday day can therefore mean an extra diving day, rather than simply a better room. These are sample programmes, not a statement that every departure follows them.

What the Socorro route actually covers

In the Nautilus nine-day example, day one is boarding in Cabo San Lucas and day two is the outbound crossing. Days three to seven are diving days around the archipelago; day eight is the return voyage and day nine is disembarkation. Named sites include The Boiler and El Canyon at San Benedicto, Cabo Pearce and Punta Tosca at Socorro, and Roca Partida. Do not read the four-island description of Revillagigedo as a promise to visit Clarión. Mexico Liveaboards' ten-day example uses day two and day nine at sea, with diving on days three to eight. It mixes San Benedicto, Socorro and Roca Partida. The operator says it coordinates with other boats and may alter the order for weather, sea conditions or wildlife. Nautilus likewise flags reduced diving around the navy check-in and at busy sites; an 'up to four dives' headline is not a four-dive daily entitlement.

Nautilus Explorer, Belle Amie or UnderSea?

Nautilus lists Explorer with up to 25 guests in 13 en-suite cabins, Belle Amie with up to 32 in 17, and UnderSea with up to 19 in nine. All three are described as air-conditioned with private bathrooms. Belle Amie's larger advertised capacity matters if you prefer a smaller onboard group; it does not by itself establish the number of divers on your skiff or the space available at a specific site. Choose the actual cabin category, not just the boat name. The operator describes a range from lower-deck staterooms to windowed suites on Explorer, and standard twins to larger suites on Belle Amie. A boat profile does not reserve a particular bed layout or deck for your booking. Match the assigned vessel and cabin to the dated departure before comparing prices.

Rocio del Mar and Quino del Mar cabin differences

Both Mexico Liveaboards vessels currently have ten en-suite cabins for 20 divers, but their layouts differ. Rocio del Mar has six main-deck twin-bunk cabins, two main-deck queen cabins, and two upper-deck cabins with a double bed and single bunk. Quino del Mar's six upper-deck twin-bunk cabins differ from its two upper-deck cabins with twin beds that can convert to a king. Its two larger below-deck cabins each have two queen beds. Pick Quino's convertible category if separate non-bunk beds are the priority; pick a specific Rocio queen category if you want that layout on the main deck. Do not transfer old Quino el Guardian cabin descriptions to Quino del Mar: the current operator describes Quino del Mar as a vessel built for divers in 2025.

Experience, currents and insurance

Nautilus requires proof of dive certification and mandatory medical and evacuation insurance. Its October 2026 pre-trip document welcomes different experience levels and describes guide support for newer divers, but explicitly says several dives can be challenging and unsuitable for those with less experience. That is not a universal beginner recommendation or proof that every certified diver can do every site. The Mexico Liveaboards destination page describes open-ocean current and chop rather than a sheltered training environment. If your recent diving has been in calm, shallow water, explain that actual experience before committing to either programme. Do not substitute a generic logged-dive number for the chosen operator's assessment. This guide does not establish a single minimum qualification across the fleet. Nautilus supplies LifeLine devices, audible signalling devices and SMBs; its pre-trip document says decompression diving is not permitted. Both operators describe no night diving at Socorro. Equipment provision and an operator's safety claims are not independent certification of a boat's current condition or a guarantee of rescue access.

When to go and what the fare leaves out

Mexico Liveaboards advertises its regular Revillagigedo season as November through May. Its published average water temperatures are warmer in November and December than in February and March. Choose exposure protection for the actual water conditions and repeated dives; a sunny Cabo forecast is not a water-temperature forecast offshore. Nautilus also lists departures into June. Seasonal animal descriptions are possibilities, not a booking guarantee for mantas, whale sharks or humpbacks. For a dated budget reference, Mexico Liveaboards publishes US$4,295 per person, double occupancy, for its standard 2027/2028 Revillagigedo programme. It lists taxes, port fees, meals, beverages, tanks, weights, and complimentary beer and wine as included. Park fees, US$140 Nitrox, boat transfers and crew gratuities are excluded. These are the destination page's advertised terms checked on 24 October 2026, not a live cabin quote. Nautilus excludes Nitrox, rental equipment, park fees, insurance, bar purchases, internet and gratuities, and lists a separate US$35 cash port fee. Obtain the park-fee line for the actual departure and any documented exemption before treating two headline fares as comparable; this guide does not certify a government tariff or an all-in trip price.

Cabo San Lucas is not San José del Cabo

Nautilus' October 2026 joining document directs guests to SeeCreatures at Calle Miguel Hidalgo 10 in Cabo San Lucas. It requests check-in by 7pm, return for the safety video by 7:15pm and boarding at 8pm. It recommends arriving at least a day early for flight or luggage disruption and describes SJD airport as roughly a 45-minute drive away. Airport transfer arrangements are separate from simply holding a liveaboard reservation. Mexico Liveaboards' regular Socorro sample embarks and returns in San José del Cabo. Do not use Nautilus' downtown Cabo San Lucas meeting point for that booking. A special combination departure can also differ from the regular sample. Use the exact vessel, programme, departure date, joining address and return port together when booking flights and hotels.

Belle Amie cabin-by-cabin choice

Compare lower-deck side-by-side staterooms with windowed superior suites and the two main-deck premium suites. The dedicated vessel guide separates those cabin choices from the Socorro programme and explains what the public safety documents do and do not establish.
