Solomon Islands liveaboards: Bilikiki or Solomons Master?
Compare seven-night and longer Bilikiki routes with Solomons Master reef, wreck and one-way programmes, including dive minimums and Honiara versus Munda.
Choose the programme before comparing the boats
For mixed reef, macro and occasional wreck diving, compare Emperor Bilikiki’s Honiara round trips with Solomons Master’s general reef itineraries. Bilikiki’s seven-night route covers the Russell Islands, Mary Island and the Florida Islands; nine nights or longer adds the Marovo Lagoon area. Solomons Master’s ten-night Best of the Solomons also extends west to Marovo and Mbulo. Choose a dedicated Wreck Week only if wrecks are the main purpose and you meet its stricter entry conditions. A ten-night Guadalcanal and Western Province itinerary is another distinct product: it runs between Honiara and Munda rather than returning to the same port. Programme, qualification and flight plan should decide the shortlist before the cabin category.

Seven nights versus a longer Bilikiki route
A seven-night Bilikiki trip gives a defined central-island scope: Russell, Mary and Florida. Leru Cut and White Beach are named Russell Island examples; the latter combines wartime remains with macro subjects. Mary Island is a schooling-fish and reef stop. Florida Island samples include Maravagi Bay for macro subjects and the Japanese Mavis seaplane. These are examples rather than a promise that every site appears on every departure. Nine nights or longer adds Marovo Lagoon in the Western Province, with examples around Kicha, Mbulo and Wickham. That is the substantive reason to pay for the extra nights if western coverage matters to you. The operator does not use a fixed site-by-site itinerary: conditions and the group’s interests affect the choices. Its advertised four day dives plus a night dive describe possible opportunities, not a required personal schedule or an unconditional total.
Bilikiki Cruises: seven-night and longer itinerariesSolomons Master: mixed reefs, wrecks or a one-way crossing
The ten-night Best of the Solomons combines the Russell and Florida Islands with Marovo Lagoon and Mbulo. It includes overnight cruising, and the operator warns that sea conditions can change the sites and number of dives. Its programme is broader than a wreck-only holiday. For Guadalcanal and Western Province, match the contract’s direction to Honiara and Munda. A Honiara international return ticket may still leave a domestic Munda connection to arrange. Do not book a Honiara hotel pickup for a Munda embarkation, or assume a western itinerary ends where you boarded. Master’s FAQ describes both ports, while the named one-way programme sets the actual route. The FAQ makes Advanced Open Water and 75 logged dives mandatory for Wreck Week, compared with Advanced recommended and 40 dives mandatory for most other programmes. Dedicated technical trips are separate again. A recreational wreck visit does not authorise entering an overhead space or exceeding your certification.
Master Liveaboards: Best of the SolomonsDo not turn “all experience levels” into an all-site promise
Emperor’s Bilikiki itinerary accepts certified divers without a minimum logged-dive count and says beginner courses are not taught aboard. That makes it a different starting point from Master’s numerical thresholds, not automatic clearance for a newly certified or out-of-practice diver. Bilikiki’s own site description identifies strong currents at Devil’s Highway. Its other examples include deep seaplane or tunnel dives. An attractive photograph is not evidence that your training covers the depth, current or overhead conditions. Agree a suitable diving plan using your recent experience before booking, with alternatives to sites beyond your limits. A guided swim-through should never be treated as a beginner cave-diving course.
Bilikiki Cruises: seven-night and longer itinerariesHoniara logistics and the final diving day
Use Honiara, HIR, for the Bilikiki round trip described by Emperor. The programme starts with boarding briefings and a check dive on the first full morning, not on embarkation day. Emperor describes two or three dives on the last diving morning, followed by the final evening aboard and morning disembarkation. Emperor requires at least 24 hours between the final dive and flying. Apply that to a domestic flight as well as an international one; the boat’s return time alone is not a flight clearance. Arriving in Honiara a day before a sailing gives a practical buffer, and Master explicitly recommends that approach. For any Munda endpoint, plan the additional connection and the diving interval before committing to the international itinerary.
Emperor Divers: Best of Solomon IslandsSeason, insurance and the actual trip budget
Emperor markets Bilikiki mainly March–December and says January and February are normally used for maintenance and crew leave. Its calendar can contain trips spanning the year boundary, so use the dated departure rather than turning the general maintenance description into a national diving closure. Warm water does not guarantee calm crossings or visibility. Emperor requires comprehensive dive and travel insurance, including evacuation and recompression-related cover; a medical form and any required doctor’s clearance are separate obligations. Master also requires suitable diving and travel cover. Do not rely on an assumed local chamber or a public boat listing as a guarantee of immediate treatment. The medical response needs to be considered for the actual route and insurer. Compare the same nights and occupancy, then identify Kastom or local fees, Nitrox, equipment, flights, hotel nights and any Munda sector. Master says its Kastom charges depend on itinerary duration and are payable aboard. These are local access payments, not a single country-wide park ticket. Its public payment wording is internally inconsistent, so obtain the accepted payment method on your departure paperwork rather than assuming a card can settle everything.
Emperor Divers: Solomon Islands diving and travel FAQsEntry paperwork: use the current official category
Do not rely on an old boat FAQ promising a visa on arrival. Master’s updated material describes a September 2026 change and says tourists need advance online visas; the Immigration Division’s own category page, however, still lists nationality-specific exemption categories. Those statements do not support one blanket rule for every passport. Use the Immigration Division’s tourist and exemption pages for your passport, and resolve any discrepancy with Immigration and your airline before travel. The official tourist application asks for passport details, a cover letter, onward or return travel, accommodation evidence where applicable and sufficient funds; approved applicants must present the grant letter on entry. Transit permissions for Australia, Fiji or Papua New Guinea are a separate question. Keep this paperwork decision ahead of non-refundable flights, without treating an operator’s visa paragraph as immigration authority.
