Belize liveaboards: boats, atoll routes and Belize City departures
Compare Belize Aggressor III and IV, Lighthouse Reef and Turneffe routes, Blue Hole limitations, cabin layouts and the Saturday departure from Belize City.
Which Belize liveaboard should you choose?
For a Belize City departure focused on Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Caye and Turneffe, compare Belize Aggressor III with Belize Aggressor IV. They share an operator and the advertised northern-atoll programme; the clearest booking difference is the cabin layout. Aggressor III carries 18 guests and most twin-share rooms use bunks. Aggressor IV carries 20, with deluxe cabins offering separate twin beds or a combined king. Choose the room configuration you can live with for a week before treating one yacht as a different dive destination. A standard charter runs seven nights, Saturday to Saturday, with selected ten-night trips also advertised. Belize is a sensible shortlist for divers who want repeated reef and wall dives from the main yacht. It is a poor match if the whole holiday depends on one guaranteed Blue Hole descent or if you want evenings ashore throughout the week.

A cabin choice, not two separate atoll itineraries
Aggressor III is the smaller guest group, but a smaller capacity does not prove that it is quieter or has better guiding. Its listed deluxe rooms 2–8 use stacked berths; room 1 is a different twin-bunk arrangement. A pair who both want a lower bed should not assume that booking a twin-share category provides that. Aggressor IV is the more straightforward shortlist if you want two beds at floor level or a king arrangement. Both boats list private bathroom facilities and individual climate controls. Reserve the exact cabin and bed configuration rather than relying only on the words deluxe or master. No independent vessel safety audit or personal inspection is implied here.
Aggressor Adventures: Belize Aggressor III room plansLighthouse Reef, Half Moon Caye and Turneffe: read the route correctly
Lighthouse Reef is the atoll containing the Great Blue Hole and the Half Moon Caye area. The wider liveaboard trip includes reef and wall diving, so the Blue Hole should be one possible dive within a reef week, not a description of every day. Aggressor also publishes Turneffe sites, including channel and reef options. Half Moon Caye can include a shore visit to the bird sanctuary when weather permits. The operator’s combined travel document lists Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Caye and Turneffe. These are route coverage, not a promise of an identical day-by-day circuit or every named site on every departure. A southern Glover’s Reef trip is a different route question: establish the actual yacht, atoll programme and embarkation port before assuming that any trip sold under Belize covers the northern Blue Hole circuit.
Aggressor Adventures: Belize Know Before You Go, updated 28 April 2026The Blue Hole is not a beginner-depth promise
Aggressor describes the first shelf with stalactites at about 110 feet. That is a deep profile, not evidence that an Open Water card alone qualifies a diver for it. The same site description notes shallower reef around the rim, but that does not establish a guaranteed alternative plan on your charter. The operator requires divers to bring their certification card, and a Nitrox card if using Nitrox. Separate acceptance on the liveaboard from suitability for a particular dive. Your training limits, recent diving, the actual briefing and conditions still govern participation. If the deep Blue Hole profile is the sole reason for booking, get explicit acceptance for that profile before paying. Do not book on the assumption that a week’s diving automatically includes it, or that Nitrox permits a deeper descent.
Aggressor Adventures: Belize dive sites and Blue Hole descriptionBelize City arrival and the seven-night week
Fly into Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport, BZE, for the Belize City boats. The April 2026 operator document places the Fort George Marina about 30 minutes from the airport and strongly encourages arrival one day early. Saturday check-in is 4–6 pm, with everyone aboard by 6 pm; checkout is by 8 am the following Saturday. These are the operator’s published windows, not flight-delay protection. The same document lists Saturday airport shuttles at approximately noon and 4–4:30 pm. Those transfers are for the yacht’s embarkation day; an early-arrival hotel transfer is your responsibility. Use the final joining instructions to match your flight and pickup. Diving normally begins Sunday morning and ends around Friday noon before the yacht returns to port. The advertised programme allows up to five dives a day, but sea conditions and the actual schedule determine what runs. Friday night dinner ashore is excluded, even though the individual vessel pages describe meals generally as provided. Use that more specific exception when budgeting.
Aggressor Adventures: Belize joining instructions and exclusionsCompare the whole quote and travel season
Compare a dated quote for the actual cabin, trip length and departure. Add Nitrox, rental equipment, any stated park or port charges, gratuities, Friday dinner, flights and pre-cruise accommodation as separate lines. The operator lists 32% Nitrox at extra cost; do not assume that an advertised cabin fare includes it or all conservation charges. A current written invoice is more useful than a generic cheapest-week figure. Belize has year-round diving, but a booked departure does not guarantee calm crossings or access to exposed sites. The operator’s travel guide identifies wetter-season visibility limitations near the mainland during June–November and occasional tropical weather. Prioritise the atoll programme, cancellation terms and buffer before a fixed international flight over a promise that one month guarantees the Blue Hole.
